Peggy Macnamara’s latest series of watercolors transport the viewer behind the scenes of the Field Museum and into the mysterious world of scientific collecting. A kinship exists between the artist and the scientist / collector: both seek the unexpected in the act of accumulation. Each painting, like its subject, depicts the possibilities within this science of observation. As artist-in-residence at the Field, Macnamara is in a position to see and capture what most people never get a chance to observe. These collections are a universal source material that encourages discovery and creative thinking. Macnamara manifests their abundant wonder.
