One might not expect that a show called The Girls would depict a fleet of decaying ocean liners. Such rusted behemoths generally call to mind the doomed glories of the past, and seem to have little to do with youthful femininity. Yet Renee McGinnis encircles the stormy, clouded ships with flowers, opals, and incredibly delicate patterns inspired by designs on the fine china that was historically created to commemorate the launching of new vessels. She vividly asserts that the balance between the nautical image and its natural border is as fragile as that between man and his environment: doomed, yet unimaginably beautiful.
