The quiet, yet significant cultural contribution that Three Oaks makes to the Chicago area is manifest in the beauty of Karen Perl's intimate paintings. Recalling the emotion of Fairfield Porter and the draughtsmanship of Edward Hopper, Perl works in a tradition based on observation in conjunction with discreet composition.
Karen Perl participated in an "artist in residence" program initiated at the Aron Packer Gallery/ Three Oaks location summer 2006. The paintings to be shown here at Packer Schopf represent a small portion of her experience. In an atmosphere of warmth and friendliness, Perl settled in quickly and gleaned some of the rich and unique history of Three Oaks. The people she met and spoke with while painting en pleine aire embodied a legacy of embracing change and celebration of their continuing sense of place in the community. The residents of Three Oaks greatly enriched and deepened her experience, sharing their stories and memories, leaving an imprint not only on the paintings, but in her soul as well.
The Three Oaks work will be enhanced by recent urban landscapes of Chicago
