This is a carved wood and found object sculpture by the blind and deaf artist, George Pappadakis. It was made around 1995. George Pappadakis lost his sight later in life so he remembered what things looked like. He was a woodworker earlier in his life so he was comfortable working with hand tools. Saws, hammers, nails, rasps, etc… This elephant measures 8" x 18” x 5" and is made of carved wood. It is also a puzzle that comes apart like vintage puzzle key chains if you remember them. This work is astounding!
Pam Pauly, an actress and comedy writer who splits her time between Chicago and New York, brings to life bustling cities with colored pencil, watercolors and crayons on foamboard or atop brown wrapping paper, all of which she groups under the heading "Cityscapes."
Some of the cities depicted -- Chicago, Gary, New York -- are readily recognizable. In "Chicago," traffic clogs Lake Shore Drive. The Drake Tower looms up in the distance. Other works depict anonymous big cities crammed with the typical mix of cars, streets, people and pets. Pauly's favorite cats keep reappearing as well, often as passengers in taxis, buses and cars.
