David Buckingham's upcoming show breaks new ground when it comes to the term found object. He searches and carts away found metal remnants of industrial
relics to be given new life. In doing so a body of work forged from this scarred colorful metal emerges. "I love the idea that these forgotten relics are rescued and converted into art" something that was destined for the landfill ends up in a marble hall in the Hamptons'. Calling LA home, inspiration comes from visuals associated with popular American culture, cars, television, film, and advertising. These combinations of decay and high/low vision create a specific language all its own. His text pieces "slogans and catch phrases from classic movie and television lines" are words that are embedded in our collective mind and culture. This use of text
combined with the visual tangibility immerses the viewer in a distorted post-advertising vernacular, which leaves its own unique imprint.
