HI everyone... thanks for paying attention after that heat! If you are curious we made our Kickstarter goal for this book I am participating in. See link here.

We will have a show sometime in the fall with the project. More notes on that soonish.

Beyond that the activity keeps coming. I have curated my first Folk, Outsider, and Self-Taught Art auction at Toomey & Co Auctioneers. Auction is now online and previews start Thursday, August 5. Auction is on Thursday, August 12th at noon. Worth taking a look online I think. We will have a special reception on Saturday, August 7 from Noon to 4 PM. It's special in the sense that normally we are closed on Saturdays. I'll be there with a few of my colleagues so come on down. Hours for all the preview dates are below, along with other details. Oak Park is a little far for some of you but would love to see you all on that Saturday. The show looks like one of my gallery shows so if you miss those...

Also we really got some great things in. One highlight is a group of 25 or so Folk Art / Americana objects from the Collection of Governor Thompson. There are a few pictured below. Lot 3 and 55. And please note Bernard Gilardi's work. Lot 241. Maurizio Cattelan curated an exhibition at Shrine, in NYC. Cattelan, David Byrne, and Fred Armisen are all collectors of Gilardi's work! Hope to see you sometime during preview or on that Saturday.

See you and thanks. Best, Aron

Two Articles for Folk, Outsider &
Self-Taught Art + Americana
Auction on August 12

by Aron Packer, Senior Specialist,
Contemporary & Outsider Art

Recently, Toomey & Co.'s Aron Packer wrote two articles for our website's New and Noteworthy section in anticipation of our inaugural Folk, Outsider & Self-Taught Art + Americana auction on Thursday, August 12. The first article answers the question, "What Is Outsider Art?" In the process, Aron provides an overview of Folk, Outsider, and Self-Taught Art plus Americana while discussing the release of Jean Dubuffet's 1947 manifesto on art brut ("raw art"), the publication of Roger Cardinal's book Outsider Art in 1972, and various contemporary exhibits and art fairs. The second article contains several concise biographies of notable figures in these overlapping fields along with selected auction results and previews of works that will be offered on August 12.
